Nexon has been handling the DotA 2 Korean server quite well since 2013, they are going to shut down the Korean server on December 10th and ending its operation. All the accounts and data, including purchased items and personal info, will be transferred to Steam and Korean players can only play DotA 2 with Steam since then.
Whether there will be future publisher taking over DotA 2 in South Korea is uncertain. So for a long time Korean players can only play with Steam.
