RuneScape made quite a bit of announcements at their annual RuneFest event in Cambridget this weekend. Revealed during the RuneFest 2019 keynote address, Jagex is improving both its current version of RuneScape with a new skill, as well as launching an expansion for those who enjoy the Old School version of the venerable MMORPG. Additionally, early access will be hitting RuneScape Mobile later this year.

RuneScape will get its 28th skill overall - the first in four years - when Jagex introduces Archaeology to the game this coming January. Via a press release:

Archaeology will see players uncover multiple dig sites across the game’s world of Gielinor to plunder ancient artefacts. As they explore the excavation locations, powerful relics and weapons are uncovered, alongside knowledge and demon pacts that have been lost to time.

RuneScape also plans to build upon its The Land Out of Time expansion content with The Ranch Out of Time. The new content drop will see players "raise, nurture and farm monstrous Gielinorian Dinosaurs." Its arrival will also see the level cap for Farming and Herblore raised from 99 to 120.

Also announced at the keynote was early access for RuneScape Mobile will be coming later this year. The mobile version will include cross play with the desktop game, meaning every player who enjoys RuneScape can take their whole adventure on the go.

Finally, Old School RuneScape isn't being forgotten, as a new expansion is coming for the MMORPG.

The headline announcement for Old School RuneScape was the Morytania Expansion, which will open the vampyre city of Darkmeyer to both desktop and mobile players. Previously inaccessible, the city will reveal new activities and a new high-level agility course. The expansion will also deliver Sins of the Father, the penultimate quest in the Myreque series, in addition to new skilling content and a new group boss – the Nightmare of Ashihama. The Morytania Expansion begins in early 2020.

Old School RuneScape will also be getting a new game mode, Leagues, as well as a new Clan system which will allow players to arrange their own events, track progress with their group as well as compete with rival Clans in the game.
