The Final Fantasy XIV Reddit has been updated with some newly translated material from the Japanese site Famitsu that indicates Square Enix is on board with more frequent updates and yearly expansions. Updating FFXIV from v2.0 to v3.0 took roughly 18 months. According to the post, that should shorten dramatically in the future, down to about three months between updates and smaller hotfix-type updates in between those.

Expansions will be released yearly and will feel as if they have true impact on the game itself complete with cliffhangers and dramatic alterations to the landscape.
